Rental Rules and Regulations

If your group rents a school facility through the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Essex County District School Board (GECDSB), you must follow the rules and regulations outlined on the permit as well as the following policies and procedures:

Insurance requirements

To get a rental permit, you need to present proof of liability insurance naming GECDSB as an additional insured on the policy. The insurance must cover a minimum $2 million.

Accidents and injuries

Make sure that you know how to respond if an accident or injury takes place while you're renting a GECDSB facility. Review our Accident/Injury Flow Chart for full details.

Rental group responsibilities

If an injury or accident takes place while your group is using a GECDSB facility, you need to:

  • Call 911 if medical attention is required or use your First Aid Kit to treat the injury
  • Contact the Rental Office the next day to report the injury and provide the name of the injured person, date, time, location and brief summary of the situation
  • Contact your insurance company
  • Provide the Rental Office with a copy of the Incident Report from your insurance company

What is considered a critical injury or accident?

A critical injury or accident is defined as an injury of a serious nature which has occurred and caused or resulted in:

  • Placing life in jeopardy
  • Producing unconsciousness
  • Resulting in substantial loss of blood
  • Involving the fracture or break of a leg or arm (not a finger or toe)
  • Involving amputation of a leg, arm, hand or foot (not a finger or toe)
  • Consisting of burns to a major portion of the body

Fire safety plan

The GECDSB has a Fire Safety Plan for each facility that is located in the yellow binder in the main office. Review the Fire Safety Plan Pamphlet for more information about how you should respond during a fire emergency.
